5 ways to overcome the winter blues…

  
   Ahhh it’s that time of the year again. The leaves have fallen, the days have shortened annnnd your winter blues are kicking in. You get moody, don’t want to get out of bed, and just “can’t wait for winter to end” Well, it’s time to face it head on! Here’s 5 ways to dodge the winter sadness! 

1: Prepare some cozy awesomeness. Find a cute new coffee mug, or a new pair of fleece pajamas! Something that will make you happy, and look forward to the cold nights ahead. 

2: Go outside! Find an excuse to get out of the house. Sometimes, the weather can have a major effect on us getting a little too familiar with the couch. Just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean you should hibernate. Go on a walk, or play in the snow! 

3: Wear the occasional bright color. We get so into the darker trends around this time of year, that we almost forget how color can damper a mood. When you’re feeling a bit drained, add a splash of color to your gloomy day! 

4:Don’t eat your feelings. We tend to get a little carried away with the Christmas cookies and comfort foods, but that can add to feeling sluggish. When you’re eating a lot of sugar it can cause fatigue, which is not the best companion for winter season. Eat protein, and other feel good foods. 

5: Challenege yourself! Take a day to hit the slopes and learn to ski! Motivate yourself to want to get out of bed in the mornings. Find some time to start a new project to engage in. Keeping busy will allow yourself to focus on other things. 

   Winter can be long, and somewhat depressing, but there is no reason to get caught up in its negative side effects. Treat yourself, and learn to love the months ahead!
